Local currency or US dollars In Nepal

Both US dollars and Nepali rupees are accepted in Nepal. However, it is recommended to use Nepali rupees for most transactions as it is the official currency of Nepal and is widely accepted throughout the country.

US dollars are mainly used for large transactions such as paying for trekking permits, hotel bills, and expensive purchases. It’s important to note that some places may not accept US dollars that are torn, damaged, or have any markings on them.

It’s recommended to exchange your currency for Nepali rupees at banks or authorized currency exchange counters in Nepal as they offer better exchange rates than hotels or shops.
